Research on the Industrial Development of Cubic Zirconia Gemstones
Cubic zirconia has not been found in nature so far. It is a natural zirconia (monoclinic phase) that undergoes phase change under certain conditions, and changes from tetragonal phase to cubic phase to a high-level structure cubic phase with the most densely packed atoms. With the phase change, its performance also changes from low-level to high-level. Cubic zirconia has properties such as high refractive index, large dispersion, high hardness, and good chemical stability. Its comprehensive effect is very similar to that of diamond, so cubic zirconia is marketed as a substitute for diamond - imitation diamond.
The phase transition temperature of cubic zirconia is 2370-2750℃. To heat natural monoclinic zirconia to cubic zirconia, advanced cold crucible induction heating shell melting method is generally used to prepare cubic ZrO2 crystals. The preparation process is divided into 4 steps: ① Mixing and charging; ② High-frequency induction heating to melt the "melting metal"; ③ Melting ZrO2 powder to form a shell; ④ Supercooling crystallization to obtain ZrO2 crystals.
Colored cubic zirconia crystals are widely used as ornaments and are loved by people. To prepare colored cubic ZrO2, you only need to add different colorants when mixing. Sometimes, in order to stabilize cubic zirconia, Y2O3 is added to zirconium dioxide. If it is excessive, the product will appear yellow. At this time, an appropriate amount of reagent that can produce blue should be added. According to the principle of color complementation, the yellow color can be eliminated. Synthetic cubic zirconia crystals can be used not only to process jewelry, but also in many fields such as superconducting materials, window materials and wear-resistant materials.
