Description: Gallium oxide, is the most stable oxide of gallium. White triangular crystalline particles. Insoluble in water. Slightly soluble in hot acid or alkali solution. There are five isomers of Ga2O3: α, β, γ, δ, ε. The most stable one is β-isomer. When heated to over 1000℃ or heated to over 300℃ in hydrothermal condition (i.e. wet process), all other isomers are converted to β-isomer. All kinds of pure isomers can be prepared by different methods. Gallium oxide can be dissolved in dilute nitric acid, hydrochloric acid and sulfuric acid. The burnt Ga₂O₃ is insoluble in these acids, even in concentrated nitric acid, and also in the aqueous solution of strong alkali. It can only be dissolved by melting NaOH, KOH or KHSO₄ together with K₂S₂O₇. Gallium chloride is formed by melting with twice of NH₄Cl at 250℃.
